CURRENT PRESS RELEASES6/3/22
TOWN OF SENECA SPECIAL BOARD MEETING ON JUNE 7TH BOARD TO VOTE ON A PLAN TO GATHER RESIDENT INPUT ON LANDFILL The Town of Seneca Board will meet on June 7th at 7:00 pm to hear a presentation from a nonprofit organization it might contract with to help engage Town of Seneca residents in discussions to inform the future of the landfill. Ontario County’s contract on the existing landfill in the Town of Seneca expires in 2028 and the town board needs to determine its preference for future plans. To make this decision, the board would like to engage residents to get input on this decision. Causewave Community Partners will share a proposal outlining a process to assist in garnering input from residents on whether to close or expand the landfill. Under the current contract with Casella Waste Management, town residents get a variety of benefits including reduced taxes, free waste disposal and other town improvements. More broadly, Ontario County residents, benefit from annual revenue generated from landfill operations. In order to retain these benefits and continue operations, the landfill will need to expand into adjacent property. Closing the landfill would require the County to find a new location for waste disposal outside of Ontario County. Following the June 7th meeting, the Town Board will release information on how residents can share their opinions as it pertains to the future of the landfill, which will ultimately be made by the Town and County. |
