BUILDING PERMITS
Many constituents question the need for permits. While sometimes inconvenient, a building permit is the mechanism to allow an independent inspection of work performed on your property to help ensure the safety of you and your loved ones regardless if you personally completed the work or hired a professional. All of our application forms are available online by choosing the FORMS button below.
Building permits are required for most new construction, whether temporary of permanent. Permits are also required for many repair or remodel projects. Our office receives calls weekly with questions regarding the need for a permit. We will gladly discuss your project and help determine if a permit is necessary.

CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS
Carbon Monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can be produced from gas stoves, gas heaters, wood stoves, coal stoves, pellet stoves, gas water heaters, or any device which uses a solid, liquid, or gas fuel source. Even decorative candles produce Carbon Monoxide. Every year hundreds of people are sickened or die needlessly from Carbon Monoxide poisoning. Carbon Monoxide poisoning often mimics flu symptoms.
New York State adopted Amanda's Law which went into effect in 2010. This law requires that Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detectors be installed in nearly every dwelling unit in the state. A dwelling unit can be a house, apartment, condominium, townhouse, etc. The number of alarms and placement differ from one dwelling unit to another. Residents may call our office and we will visit your dwelling and help determine where these alarms are required.
New York State signed into Law new requirements for all Commercial Buildings to have Carbon Monoxide Detectors installed by June 27, 2016. Please contract the Zoning/Code Enforcement office for details and help locating detectors within your building.
The cost of a battery operated or plug in Carbon Monoxide detector is minimal and may easily save the life of you, a loved one, or a family pet. A printable pamphlet is also available to help answer your questions by clicking the link below.
